Getting started
Documentation
This is the documentation hub for Kona. The marketing home lives at the site root; everything below is how to build with the framework.
Kona boots an application, plugs features in with service providers, looks services up from a container, and answers HTTP with routes and middleware. The same APIs work from Kotlin and Java. The grind CLI scaffolds and serves your project.
Use the sidebar in order when you are new: Getting started → The basics → Crema, then Digging deeper, and branch into Security, Database, Frontend, Testing, and Packages & tooling as you need them.
The basics
Everyday request work: routing, controllers, middleware, validation, exceptions, and logging.
Crema
Server-side views: getting started, rendering, layouts, components & slots, stacks, and the directive reference.
Digging deeper
How the application and container fit together, plus grind, events, queues, mail, cache, drip, and scheduling.
Security
Overview, then session, authentication, authorization, CSRF, encryption, CORS, and rate limiting.
Database
Cadence — overview, models, query builder, relations, migrations, and seeders.
Frontend
Brew reactive UI, Inertia, Vite / assets, and starter kits.
Testing
Packages & tooling
Packages, language support, LSP, VS Code & Cursor, and IntelliJ.
Kona ships as Maven artifacts under the group org.konaframework and requires JDK 21 or newer. Notes for contributors working on the framework itself live in the repository.
